How to elevate of human resources in Indonesia?

There are many ways to elevate the value of human resources in Indonesia. Here are some ideas:

  1. English should be the instruction language in the best universities in Indonesia. I met some Indonesian Professors of Medicine, who have very poor English capabilities. Where they get their updated medical knowledge from?...
  2. High school students should have TOEFL's level of English exam to pass their matriculation tests, and to be accepted by any governmental sponsored University.
  3. Indonesia will grant FREE KITAS and other benefits for any qualified English teacher around the world, if he/she has an employer in Indonesia. Currently, one has to pay around 1,000,000 Rupiahs per month just for visa...
  4. Indonesia will encourage its immigrated skilled population who currently living in advanced countries to come back to Indonesia. One of the first steps should be the recognition of dual citizenship. Current policy, almost force any skilled Indonesian who live abroad to abandon his/her homeland citizenship. Many Asian nations get their push of modernization by returned skilled citizens. This will never happened in Indonesia as long as dual citizenship is not recognized here!
  5. University studies should be free of charge for girls. This will push the whole population very fast to better standard of achievements, since not many girls will want to marry a guy who has lower education than her... Likewise, educated women, ensure her children will be educated too. Educated women have also fewer children. This can curb the growth of population too, and bring with it higher standard of living among Indonesians.
  6. Indonesian appointed international scholar committee should decide which university fields are the most important for the future development of Indonesia. Then, it should pay as much as needed to bring the most respected professors around the world to teach in Indonesia for some years.
  7. Universities should be managed by people who have experience in managing international respected campuses. Indonesia should pay these managers the needed salary, and give them full support for any reform they would like to implement.

Good Luck!

Where are the fatwas against killing of peaceful people in the name of Islam???

Here is a nice piece of news about the OIC reaction to the Mumbai events.
Now, I am waiting for the Mullahs, Ulemas, and Muslim religious leaders and parties around the world (especially those who are so enthusiastic in issuing fresh fatwas and religious laws) to issues some refreshing fatwas against Muslims who express support for killing of civilians... and of-course to demonstrate against the blasphemy of using the name of Islam for slaughtering peaceful civilians. Another fatwa, much more severe should be issued against joining organizations which support killing of peaceful civilians, and another nice fatwa can ask any Mulsim to do anything he/she can do to prevent killing of peaceful people.
Currently, in Indonesia, religious leaders are busy with banning and dissolve Ahmadiyya sect, and with... dressing code. In Malyasia they are busy with tomboys and Yoga practicing. Don't you think using the name of Islam for killing peaceful people is much more severe??? - Why no Ulemas, Muslim Religious leaders, and Muslim religious parties are issuing the right fatwas against such atrocities done in the name of Islam???
I am almost sure I will not get answer from any of my Muslim friends, because none of you have one. You are ashamed of your religious leaderships, but dare not to express it, or do something to change it...
That's what make me very sad and pessimistic about the future of the Islamic world....

About Malaysian Election 2008

I was excited to read the results of the last election results in Malaysia, and especially in Penang. Malaysian people showed they can change if they want and care.
First step was done, and from my experience it's not enough. For real change people who want a change need to dedicate some percent of their spare time for activities ensuring the new and fresh leadership will adhere to their promises.
History showed many places and times that a fresh alternative many times becomes a huge disappointment. Fresh alternative many times become corrupted and impotent much faster than the previous regime. See what happened in Indonesia after 30 years of Suharto dictatorship, or what happened in Israel after 30 years of Labor party rule, when the Likud gained the power in 1977.
Malaysian people should respect their new elected candidates, but suspect them at the same time. They should be given limited credit by the voters who look for change, - but voters' eyes should be kept open to see how their new representatives are using this credit. Are the representatives thinking now how to share the power only, or how to implement their promises too?... Without close follow-up by the majority of population, - there will be no real change. Every citizenry got what it deserve! Apathetic attitude of the citizenry or unlimited credit to the elected new candidates, now, - will cause Malaysia to remain the same or even go backward. Malaysian people show they can cause the chance in leadership. Now they have to force the new leadership in Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kedah to fulfill their promises and give the real change. No time for siting back happily !

Good Luck!
